Welcome to Les Insoumises.

“Les Insoumises” is french to describe women who refuse to submit.

This blog is a place to promote women and non-binary artists from the punk/hardcore scene, as well as the folk, rock n’ roll, psychobilly, power pop, grunge, and indie scenes.

Through interviews, discussions and art, we believe that empowering female musicians is crucial to gender equality, in a scene that is mostly male dominated.

Anybody is welcome to participate in this blog, as we feel it is important to remain united against sexism, or any form of hatred and intolerance, based on gender, race, color, sexual orientation, and religion.

Punk rock is not a fucking boys club.

Join the fight, and together, let's show futur generations that anybody can get on a stage to fuck shit up.

2020: HEAR THEM ROAR

Band: Dream Nails / Photographer: Jeroen Jacobs The year 2020 was probably off to a good start for many of us. The prospect of new music, new shows, new ways to kick doors down and share art that means a lot to us, was promising once again. Then, around mid march, it all came to a stop. The whole industry was placed on hold while new ways of doing things were put in place to take care of everyone around us. It didn't stop us from being heard though. It didn't take long for independant medias and artists to get the ball rolling again. After all, most of us have been doing it ourselves for so long. We were up for the challenge.  Eventually new music was recorded, virtual events became a thing, and through online communities, voices have been heard. We are proud to say that it ended up being a good year for women and marginalized artists. We have discovered so many great bands, have seen so many amazing events being organized, and most of all, we've seen all of you getting tog...

INTERVIEW W/ KAT MOSS (SCOWL)

Photo: Chrisy Salinas / @cuhhrissee Scowl is a hardcore punk band from Santa Cruz, California, and they've been making a lot of waves within, and beyond the hardcore scene, since they've released their amazing debut album last year, " How Flowers Grow ". They were recently confirmed as and opener on Limp Bizkit 's upcoming arena tour, which is set to begin next month, but before that, they are getting on the road with Touché Amoré , Vein FM , Militarie Gun and Closer , next week, and will be stopping by Montreal on the 24th, at the Fairmount Theatre .  We got in touch with singer, Kat Moss , to learn more about the band and her musical background.  ----------------- Hey Kat, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us. We've been huge fans of your work with Scowl, ever since we heard the first EP. But before we talk about where the band is at now, we are very interested to find out where you come from. Where did you grow up, and how old were you wh...

Interview w/ Victoria Mladenovski (Peer Pressure)

Peer Pressure is a straight foward, tough as nail, hardcore band from Quebec city. Formed in 2018, the band, fronted by singer Victoria Mladenovski , released a first EP that made lots of waves within the local punk/hardcore/metal community, and beyond. After a few shows around the province, Victoria quickly gained the reputation of being a fierce performer, with powerful vocals, that will make you wanna 2-step your way to the pit in a second. The group just released their first opus, so we got in touch with her to talk about it, and how it all begun. First of all, congrats on the new album, it's such a powerful kick to the face, from start to finish! How does it feel to finally put out your first full length? We are beyond proud to finally share “Catharsis”, which is heavily focussed on mental illnesses. We’ve worked so hard as a band from the start. We are still quite “new” to the scene, so putting out our first full length is just overwhelming. It hasn’t been an easy roa...
