WITCHES OF THE WEEK #21: RADIO COMPASS

1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? Angela: We are based out of Salem, MA (also known as “Witch City” to many because of the Witch Trials) north of Boston. But also consider ourselves a Boston Band- I’ve lived there, Jill lives there. Salem is a dope City-Town with cobblestone streets, antique colorful homes, lots of places to eat and drink and be merry. Very easy to fall in love with. We have a couple awesome music venues that do lots of punk, indie, metal music. The best deal is to come in the warm season, take the train or ferry in, hit up the beach and then a show later. And of course, we have one of the biggest Halloween celebrations around. Come by next fall and we’ll be your tour guide. Franklin: I love drinking on a patio that’s on a cobblestone street on a warm summer night. Oh, and cookies from Goodnight Fatty Kerry: Agree about warm summer nights, walking/drinking on cobblestone streets - Getting a flight of cider from Far From the Tree and s

BREAK IT DOWN #1: "WE ARE GIRLS" by IDESTROY

1. What does this album mean to you? We Are Girls is our debut album, so it's very special to us! We are already so proud of what we have achieved with the release. 2. Why "We are girls"? Sometimes the word girl gets used in a negative way, well this is a celebration of being a GIRL! 3. Where was it recorded and who produced it? The album was recorded and mixed by Jay Hills at West Street Studios, Bristol. We selfed produced the album alongside Jay, who was great at achieving the sounds we wanted. I would give him some vague description of an effect or show him a rough demo or reference track and he'd take that and turn our songs into exactly what I'd imagined. 4. One moment that happened during its recording, that you will never forget? Recording the crowd vocals on Death Party was a lot of fun. We invited some of our mates alongs to the studio and took a whole night recording vocal layer upon vocal layer. 5. Break it down: G.O.D. G.O.D is the album opener, it

WITCHES OF THE WEEK #20: CIRCLE NØNE

Photo by Brighton Punx Picnic 1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? The band is based in London but we're from all over! Egypt, Japan, Ireland and a bit of English between all four of us. Best thing to do in London is to find yourself cheaper rent by some miracle or squat despite the clampdown and many many MANY attempts to stop or ban it entirely. and gigs! London is a real bore without gigs. We're kinda losing the plot during lockdown. 2- What does your band name stand for and what was the runner up? It means we're not into cliques or going round in circles with anything. I don't think we ever had a runner up.. 3- Describe your sound using a movie title. What We Do In The Shadows Thank Fuck! the Demos by CIRCLE NØNE 4- What song would describe each member of the band? Currently... Seamus is "Blind, Naked and Covered in Shit" (he is most the time to be fair) by Driller Killer. Lucian is Ruptured Heart Theory by Eyehategod Am

WITCHES OF THE WEEK #19: VAGINA WITCHCRAFT

1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? Vagina Witchcraft is from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The best thing to do here would have been going to local shows, but that hasn't been an option because of the pandemic :( So instead I really just listen to my record collection at home which is constantly growing these days! :) 2- What does your band name stand for and what was the runner up? The band name Vagina Witchcraft stands for power, and just owning who you are outright with no shame. Vagina as a word is often associated with weakness or being timid or scared and we aim to change that. One of the runner ups for band name was Aminatu, named after Queen Aminatu, a powerful 16th century African warrior queen. 3- Describe your sound using a movie title. X-Men ? Vagina Witchcraft by Vagina Witchcraft   4- What song would describe each member of the band? Kayla - Oppressor - Jesus Piece "I refuse to bite my tongue, the revolution has begun, I refuse

WITCHES OF THE WEEK #18: VULPYNES

1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? Molly: We are from Dublin, Ireland. The best thing to do here is admire the scenery and play live music. Ireland is a beautiful country with a vibrant music scene. However at the moment we are living in lockdown, so neither of those things are possible. Instead, I've been supplementing those activities with trying to spot urban foxes around my neighbourhood and attracting different species of birds into my back garden with extravagant bird feeders. Life changes. Kaz: Best things for me are attending gigs with friends, any sea or beach, Achill Island is a beaut! 2- What does your band name stand for and what was the runner up? Molly: Vulpynes is taken from 'Vulpine' which is a fox. And ehhh we were nearly called Black Thread. Which sucks major balls. Kaz: Like Molly said, I remember Black Thread being on a piece of paper haha. Super glad we didn't go with that!! 3- Describe your sound using a movie titl
