On peut pas dire que les punkeuses soient tranquilles dans notre scène en ce moment, et on aime ça comme ça! Au courant de l'été, on a vu passer sous notre radar 4 albums d'artistes qu'on adore, et qu'on arrête pas d'écouter en boucle. On vous conseille de faire de même. Achetez leurs albums, parlez en, partagez les partout sur les réseaux sociaux, demandez à votre émission de radio punk préférée de les faire jouer et bien sûr, à vos promoteurs préférés de les booker!

BORING GIRLS - Bad Mammal

Boring Girls est un groupe de Montréal, qui nous offrait l'année dernière l'excellent EP "Hello, Hell No", et qui récidive déjà avec un deuxième opus tout aussi incisif et éclaté. Les 9 pièces ont une durée moyenne de 1m20, et c'est exactement comme ça qu'on aime notre hardcore punk, simple et droit au but. Mais qu'on se comprenne bien, simple ne veut pas dire simplet ici, car il y a vraiment une belle créativité dans les riffs, rythmes et structures. Le tout sonne d'ailleurs vraiment bien et juste assez cru pour un album entièrement autoproduit par les membres du groupe. On a tellement hâte de les voir en show!

RUBY SLIPPER - EP

Ruby Slipper est le nouveau groupe de la multi-instrumentiste montréalaise Jessica Ruby, que vous pouvez aussi apercevoir derrière la batterie pour la formation Rrot grrrl Calico Fray. Elle prend ici le micro et la guitare, et est accompagnée par Francis et Francis. Le groupe nous livre 3 pièces de grunge glam qui arrachent tout! Non seulement les chansons sont énergiques, entraînantes et solides mais la voix de Jessica vole carrément le show tellement elle est puissante et féroce. Notre découverte locale de l'année sans conteste!

BAD SKIN - Live Fast Die Punk

Bad Skin ont fait beaucoup de chemin depuis leur premier EP "Riot Girl" sorti en 2016 et leur plus récent ouvrage nous démontre vraiment à quel point elles sont rendues au sommet de leur art! Le son grunge et riot grrrl des années 90 est toujours aussi vigoureux, l'attitude punk est toujours aussi impitoyable dans chaque mot craché par la chanteuse Dope et les textes restent tranchants à souhait. Mais c'est vraiment au moment d'orchestrer tout ça ensemble que le groupe s'est encore plus accompli. La formation au complet c'est Dope au chant, Caro à la guitare, Aurély à la basse et Christine à la batterie. Elles arrivent à nous partager parfaitement le plaisir qu'elles ont de jouer ce nouveau matériel. Le groupe se produira prochainement aux festivals Music 4 Cancer et Pop Montréal, alors manquez pas ça!

THE HORNY BITCHES - Shut Up And Be Nice

L'absence de la chanteuse/guitariste Marie Starlet Lavigne se fait encore sentir dans le paysage de la scène punk québecoise mais il n'y a pas de mots pour décrire notre joie lorsqu'on a entendu la nouvelle que les Horny Bitches allaient sortir un nouvel album! Il se trouve que Marie a enregistré 10 chansons avant de nous quitter, et grâce à toute une équipe, dont Musique Néfaste, ses chansons verront enfin le jour, pour notre plus grand bonheur à toustes. L'album sortira officiellement le 31 août, jour de l'anniversaire de Marie, sur toutes les plateformes numériques mais vous pouvez déjà réserver votre copie vinyle en prévente à travers Bandpromo, en lien ici-bas. Faites vite car les quantités sont limitées!

On a vu que d'autres groupes étaient en studio durant l'été, comme The Lef7overs et The Bombs. Il y a aussi Kate Dress (qui sera en solo au Music 4 Cancer, à ne pas manquer!) et Pesca LePhaneuf des Horny Bitches qui travaillent sur un projet qu'on a bien hâte d'entendre. Vendredi, il y a The Lookout qui sort un nouveau single. Les shows recommencent aussi : Calico Fray, Scarlet Wives, Feed, Fractured et Pale Lips sont de retour sur scène. Hipshot part en tournée. Bref, les femmes et artistes non-binaires de notre scène punk font beaucoup de bruit ces temps-ci, alors allez les encourager à foutre le bordel dans les boys club!

In 1996, three girls from New-York got together to form The Devotchkas . A band that would go on to become one of the most talked about all-girl oï punk of the scene at the time. When did you first pick up a camera and what motivated you to start photography? I picked up a camera at around 4 years old. My mom did some photography when i was young, so I grew up with a camera in my hands. Did you study or are you self taught? I studied in cinema/video/communications at Dawson College, then I went to Concordia University in the same field. I never actually studied photography but I had a lot of photo classes. Do you remember the first show you ever shot and how it went? My uncle played in bands since I was really young. The first show I shot was my uncle's first show with his new band. Alright so here's our final list for 2022. We've discovered so many amazing bands this year but what we enjoy the most is seeing bands that are still active, recording and putting new noise out. A lot of them are releasing singles now, which has become almost a standard considering what the industry has become. It's an awesome way to get your name out there fast, so don't wait to record a full album or even EP. We wanna hear you, so just go ahead and record a song! We'll definitely look for it.
