Witches of the Week #5: Lady Rage

1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there?

Siren Sycho: Well I, live in Hertfordshire, just outside of North London. In regards to the best thing to do I’d say either going to the local bakery or walking in a field.

aBomb: I live near Windsor which has it’s own castle, so that’s pretty cool to check out!

Quinn: Hertfordhire area , best thing to do is avoid getting mugged.

Jones: I can't speak for the rest of the band but I'm from Welwyn Garden City and the best thing to do here in join in on one of our fun bi-weekly orgies. Also we have a John Lewis.

2- What does your name stand for and what was the runner up?

Siren Sycho: I don’t think the name really ’stands’ for anything. I remember we all came up with a load of names each. I wrote a lot of cool sounding words down and put them in a hat, then picked out different combos until I found several I liked to put in as my share of names, along with the rest of the band. We then each voted and the one with the most points was Lady Rage, the second was Bitch Trip (so glad Lady Rage won).

aBomb: We all came up with a bunch of names, mostly just stringing random words and phrases together, and then we read them all out and voted on the ones we liked. As soon as Lady Rage was read out, we all burst out laughing so it was pretty clear that was the one! Two of the ones I’d suggested were Bike-Thief Barbie and Kitten Orgy, which were thankfully vetoed.

Quinn: person name? Quinn i dunno maybe like M-cat was my old habbo name

Jones: Lady Rage means periods I think. I can't remember what the runner up is which is a good thing as it was clearly forgettable and we made the right choice.

3- Describe your sound using a movie title.

Siren Sycho: Almost Famous or Natural Born Killers

aBomb: Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Quinn: Outbreak

Jones: Carrie

4- Describe each band member using a meal.

Siren Sycho:
aBomb - A black coffee with added sugar because of her dark humour and because she’s a sweet heart.
Quinn - Pizza coz everyone loves pizza.
Jones - Ice cream coz she’s cool and delicious (I’ve tasted her ha!).

aBomb:
Siren Sycho - a McDonalds banana milkshake, coz she’s cool and delicious.
Jones - a Big Mac, coz she’s reliable and delicious.
Quinn - A Happy Meal, coz she’s small and delicious.
aBomb - Chicken Nuggets dipped in milkshake because she’s weird.
I miss McDonalds.... :(

Quinn:
Siren Sycho- Poptarts (all of her colours and make up)
aBomb- Pancakes with some sort of fruit on top (she's very disney).
Jones- Spag bowl ( comfort food, cos she's really comforting)
Quinn- (Afternoon tea, cos i love cafes and stuff)

Jones: We wouldn't be a meal, we would all be different parts of a Sunday roast that come together nicely and I'd be the potatoes.

5- Name 3 bands who would headline your dream fest?

Siren Sycho: (1980s) Motley Cure, Ministry and Tekashi 6ix 9ine.

aBomb: McFly, Ninja Sex Party and My Chemical Romance

Quinn: Kiss, jeff goldblum, rupaul

Jones: The Cheeky Girls, S club Juniors, Meshugga

6- For or not being described as "female fronted"?

Siren Sycho: I really don’t mind it, although we are all chicks so I don’t think me, as the vocalist should be singled out as being the only female. We’re an all chick band.

aBomb: It makes no sense for us - female fronted implies that the rest of us are dudes and I’m personally quite happy that I don’t have some kind of flappy squish between my legs.

Quinn: if it gets us gigs why not

Jones: We're also female behinded too.

7- Are you signed on a label and why?

Siren Sycho: We are not. Why? Because no one has approached us to ask. So any Labels out there reading this, get on board and sign us! Universal, Sony and Warner only please (jokes).

aBomb: We’re not, we’re all about the D.I.Y! That said, we wouldn’t say no if there WAS a label out there who’d like to give us a boost... hint hint.

Quinn: No, cos no ones asked

Jones: Why indeed?

8- What's the most punk thing you've seen on tour/in a show?

Siren Sycho: If you mean what’s the most punk thing I’ve personally experienced in Lady Rage or a previous band then there’s one incident that comes to mind. Back when I was in a noise core band, I was playing in my home town at a Club that had been turned into a venue for bands for the night. In the middle of our set, I started climbing up a wall that had a balcony attached to the first floor. As I reached the top of the balcony, a huge bouncer grabbed me, threw me over his shoulder, carried me out of the club and banned me from going back in. The audience were like, wtf is going on, is she coming back? I wasn’t and I wasn’t even able to go in and get any of my things! Clubs, bouncers and punk musicians do not mix!

aBomb: I nearly accidentally stabbed Captain Sensible from The Damned with my toothbrush when one of my old bands was touring with them. I was coming out the toilet just as he was coming around the corner, and I nearly ran into him. I yelled in shock, he yelled in surprise and then I ran away screaming because I am awkward and don’t know how to function as a real human. It was wild.

Quinn: Smashing guitars?

Jones: Tits

9- Best quarantine activies?

Siren Sycho: TV, sitting in my back garden pool (not a real actual swimming pool but it’s better than a paddling pool) and sex.

aBomb: Sadsturbation.

Quinn: Baking

Jones: Phoning up your band and telling them you love them. To the point where it gets creepy.

10- What's the best way to support your band?

Siren Sycho: Check us out online, watch out vids and listen to our music.

aBomb: Have each other’s back, don’t tear down women from other bands because girls supporting girls is WAY cooler and nicer, and if when on tour you hear a buzzing coming from one of the other girls bed, let her finish and THEN mock her relentlessly in the morning.

Quinn: listen to us, give us attention

Jones: See above.

Interview w/ Jennifer "JJ" Leigh ( THE DEVOTCHKAS)

In 1996, three girls from New-York got together to form The Devotchkas . A band that would go on to become one of the most talked about all-girl oï punk of the scene at the time. A time that was long before smartphones and social media, when bands only had web pages on Geocities and Angelfire, which is where we first heard about them. Because in 2001, after Jennifer Leigh, (better known has JJ ) took vocal duties, the band released an iconic album, that was not only our introduction to them, but to how much ass a women can kick when they play badass music. The next year they went on hiatus, and we never heard about them. The whole industry evolved, but for us they remained legendary in their own way.  Fast foward 20 years later, the same line-up that released that iconic album, decided it was time to get back in action. This weekend, the gang is set to play at the C.Y. Fest in Los Angeles, not once, but twice, and even though we can't attend, we couldn't be more exited at the i

THE PHOTO PASS with MIHAELA PETRESCU

When did you first pick up a camera and what motivated you to start photography? I picked up a camera at around 4 years old. My mom did some photography when i was young, so I grew up with a camera in my hands. Did you study or are you self taught? I studied in cinema/video/communications at Dawson College, then I went to Concordia University in the same field. I never actually studied photography but I had a lot of photo classes. Do you remember the first show you ever shot and how it went? My uncle played in bands since I was really young. The first show I shot was my uncle's first show with his new band. I was around 13 years old. The stress was real! I think I had one of those point and shoot cameras. I also remember my first show for a media; it was Septicflesh at Café Campus. How did you know you wanted to do concert photography and what do you love the most about it? The first concert I ever saw was of Cher . I was maybe 8 or 9 years old and I vividly remember watching the
