We thought it was the perfect timing to send some questions to this beautiful and flamboyant artist, to learn more about her story, her struggles and where she comes from. I guess it's fair to say 2020 took everyone by surprise with this world wide pandemic. What's been the hardest part for you during the lockdown and how did you make up for it? NC: The hardest part of lockdown for me personally was I had been dealing with addiction, depression as well as trying to get my hrt treatment started. 1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? We're from Houston, Texas. There's not a whole lot to do here outside of drinking, but we do have some cool stuff to see. Before this religious nut burned down the building, we had one of the coolest shops here called The Wilde Collection. It was filled with oddities, curiosities, art, taxidermy, furniture, gifts, etc. It was all very spooky and dark. I loved it! It's now temporarily closed because of the fire, but I hope they come back because that place is magical. 2- What does your name stand for and what was the runner up? The band name actually comes from an episode of Daria. I was watching the show one night, and I thought the name sounded cool. The episode itself is great. Daria's world comes crashing down after her younger "cooler" sister has a smart moment causing her to question her identity which was up until that moment the "smart" girl. 1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? We’re based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. We love going to gigs here, as there are a lot of great bands to go see in our city. There really is something for everybody. We also like going to drag shows. There are only a few queer spaces in Belfast, but there is a thriving drag community. We have dog friendly bars and cabaret nights. There’s a huge DIY feel to everything, which makes it all very inviting. You can also drive an hour up to the North coast and bring your hiking boots or hire yourself a surfboard. Peer Pressure is a straight foward, tough as nail, hardcore band from Quebec city. Formed in 2018, the band, fronted by singer Victoria Mladenovski , released a first EP that made lots of waves within the local punk/hardcore/metal community, and beyond. After a few shows around the province, Victoria quickly gained the reputation of being a fierce performer, with powerful vocals, that will make you wanna 2-step your way to the pit in a second. The group just released their first opus, so we got in touch with her to talk about it, and how it all begun. 1- Where is the band from and what's the best thing to do there? We’re born and raised in L.A., growing up in Silverlake and Echo Park, which is also where Flames Of Durga was birthed. We love playing shows, going to shows, being mermaids at the beach, checking out all kinds of art and hiking with our dogs. We had the opportunity to buy a house and decided we wanted a place where we could get loud and work from home. Joshua Tree stole our hearts and last year we found an awesome pad that we’ve been working on since. We intuitively decided to ditch our small LA apartment and move to Joshua Tree in March 2020, then a few weeks later quarantine hit! We’re from east london and the best thing to do is start a band because there is nothing else to do here to be honest unless you like drinking massively overpriced shitty cocktails. Actually Jack the Ripper tours of Whitechapel are quite good too to be fair. 2- What does your name stand for and what was the runner up? We started the band on the eve of Saint Agnes. Traditionally the eve of st agnes is a night where young girls perform certain rituals before sleeping so that their future husband shows up in their dreams and they can see what he’s gonna look like. I did this and dreamed of a stack of Marshall amplifiers so loud that they tore the very seams of the physical world apart, eardrums exploding, volcanoes erupting etc and I think that explains a lot to be honest.
